Taiwanese LGBTQ+ Streamer GagaOOLala has announced a packed slate of originals and acquired titles on the eve of Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), including unscripted queer reality dating series Boys Like Boys

Produced by GagaOOLala and its subsidiary HahaTai, the series is set to air exclusively on Warner Bros Discovery’s TLC channel in Taiwan in early 2024, making it the first local LGBTQ+ dating reality show to be broadcast on linear TV.

Described as “a game-changing series that reimagines love in the LGBTQ+ universe” the series received a world premiere at the recent Kaohsiung International Film Festival (KIFF) and is available worldwide on GagaOOLala’s platform and WeTV in the Philippines and Thailand. Regional streamer ViuTV has also picked up the series for Japan, the Philippines and Thailand.

Music-themed BL series First Note Of Love is a co-production between GagaOOLala, Thailand’s Star Hunter Entertainment, which is known for its BL (boy’s love) programming, and Warner Music Taiwan.

Scheduled to start shooting in November, the series follows a reclusive musical genius and an underprivileged singer who discover love and courage through their journey. It will be mostly filmed in Kaohsiung in Southern Taiwan, with support from the Ministry of Culture Taiwan’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, the Kaohsiung Film Fund and Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA).

GagaOOLala will also stream BL series Playboyy, directed by Cheewin Thanamin and produced by Thailand’s Copy A Bangkok, which delves into issues such as the illegal pornography trade, addiction and covert prostitution within the queer community. The uncensored trailer of the series has racked up more than a million and a half viewers on YouTube.

Also on GagaOOLala’s slate is the previously announced second season of Fragrance Of The First Flower. GagaOOLala founder Jay Lin said: “Since GagaOOLala went global in 2020, we are privileged to reach a wide audience of LGBTQ+ BL content; we take it as our responsibility now to create stories and characters that can be a part of the ever-changing cultural dialogue.

“Our commitment is to shape narratives that not only entertain but also contribute to the vital conversations surrounding diversity, inclusion, and love in all its forms.”
