Russell Wilson thrilled to join forces with Justin Fields on the Steelers

The Chicago Bears traded Justin Fields to the Steelers on Saturday for a conditional sixth-round pick, and Russell Wilson — Pittsburgh’s other newly acquired quarterback — couldn’t be happier.

“Let’s get it @justnfields!” Wilson wrote on X Saturday. “QB room bout to be [fire emoji].”

Wilson paired the sentiment with a photo of the two greeting each other on the field after a game the two played as a opponents.

As for Fields, he thanked Chicago and the organization, as well as his teammates in a post on X.

“Can’t say thank you enough to the city of Chicago for taking me in and embracing me,” he tweeted. “Thank you to the entire Bears organization and ownership for allowing me the opportunity to be part of such a historic franchise. But most of all thank you to my all my brothers that I played with. You all were the reason I attacked each day the way I did. I can’t thank you all enough for what y’all have meant to me over the last 3 years through the ups and downs. I wish each one of you nothing but success.

“Ready for this next chapter!”

Fields’ move happened just days after the Steelers secured nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Wilson to a one-year deal.

In an interview with the Steelers’ team website, Wilson revealed he doesn’t view his deal as a one-and-done stop.

“I see it as a long-term goal,” the 35-year-old Wilson said. “I want to be part of the Pittsburgh community for a really long time and I’m really excited about that.”

“I was fortunate to have several teams call, but this was the place I wanted to be,” Wilson told reporters. “To be a Pittsburgh Steeler, to wear the black and gold, it’s a true honor, it’s tradition, it’s history. There’s six trophies in there. We’re coming to get a seventh.”

The Steelers traded quarterback Kenny Pickett on Friday, leaving an opportunity for Wilson to take the starting spot.

As for Fields, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told the quarterback upfront that Wilson would start, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer,

The Bears draft pick can become a fourth-rounder if Fields plays 51 percent of the snaps in 2024, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
