Pokemon Go is a mobile Augmented Reality game published by Niantic and developed in collaboration with The Pokemon Company and Nintendo.


The game was released on the 6th of July 2016 a part of the long-running famous Pokemon Franchise.


It pushed players to go out and explore the world around them all while catching the Pokemon available in their area, battling other players, competing in Gyms, and so on. The game was a major success all over the world with people living out their dreams to catch all the Pokemon and rushing to areas where rare Pokemon were sighted in the hope to catch them.


Once caught, the game gives you an option to name your new Pokemon, however, players aren’t able to rename their Pokemon once named.

How to customise your Pokemon name?


To begin with, this will require you to install a 3rd party app onto your phone.


  • Open your app store and install “Poke Genie”

  • Once installed, open the app and give whatever permissions are asked for.

  • To customize your Pokemon name, select the “Name Generator” option in the app

  • Once there you will be able to choose or create a custom preset, which can modify your Pokemon names and even have some additional information added to them.

  • Once selected or made the preset of your choice based upon the information you wish to be displayed in-game for each Pokemons name title

  • Go back to the Poke Genie home screen and at the bottom of the screen select “Start Overlay”

  • Once selected, Pokemon Go will be launched automatically

  • When in-game, go select a Pokemon and you will have the option to change their nickname, once the original name is removed the third-party app will automatically give you an option to add in the name based on your preset.
