Omni: Business Intelligence Company Raises $20 Million From Theory Ventures

Business intelligence company Omni announced it has raised $20 million from Theory Ventures. Omni will use the funding to build out its platform further.

Omni also revealed that Lambert Billet has joined the board of directors. Billet has spent over a decade as the Chief Revenue Officer at Looker and a decade growing enterprise software solutions for companies such as Oracle and HP.

Companies worldwide, including The Rounds, Ascend, Rose Rocket, and Ubaq, depend on Omni to increase data access and self-service, reduce software costs, and save technical resources.

Omni originally launched in commercial availability last February — one year after being founded. And since then, the development has continued accelerating improvements, from making it easier to model data and operate with dbt to new methods for data delivery such as email and Slack.

Late last year, Omni launched a second core product called embedded analytics to make it easier for companies to add data to products. This month, Omni revealed a product called Calculations AI, which uses LLM to inject spreadsheet-style formulas directly into Omni tables.

KEY QUOTES:

“Until now, BI tools have forced you to choose between a governed tool that provides consistent metrics or a flexible one that makes it easier for everyone to use data. You never get both without buying multiple tools, which defeats a lot of the purpose. We built Omni so you don’t have to compromise. Everyone should be able to trust and use their data.”

  • Omni CEO and co-founder Colin Zima

“We’ve seen Lambert’s exceptional track record and ability to build and lead high-performing teams firsthand, so we know he’ll be a great addition to our board as we embark on this next phase of growth. We’re grateful for his expertise and guidance at Omni.”

  • Jamie Davidson, Omni co-founder and President

“Throughout my career, I’ve been very fortunate to work with some of the fastest-growing companies. Omni is on that trajectory. The customer growth they’ve achieved since launching is validation that they’re tackling the biggest unsolved problem in BI. After taking some time off, I couldn’t resist jumping at the chance to play a part in helping them build.”

  • Lambert Billet, Omni Board Member and Former Chief Revenue Office at Looker

“Planet provides data and analytics that are mission critical to companies and governments all over the world, so getting our own internal data right is critical. Using Omni has provided our teams with fast development tooling with an emphasis on flexibility for users to get the insights we need.”

  • Kevin Weil, President of Planet, a leading provider of global, daily satellite imagery and geospatial solutions

“Omni picked up where Looker left off. Based on the team’s experience helping thousands of companies with their data over the last decade, Omni is addressing a lot of the gaps left by previous generations of BI — and bringing a lot of new features to the table. Just two years in, it’s remarkable to see how they’re bringing about the next generation of data by bringing more users under the tent. I’m thrilled to double down on Omni.”

  • Tomasz Tunguz, founder of Theory Ventures

“Our goal at Omni is to make BI better — faster, more flexible and powerful — without adding unnecessary complexity. We leaned into SQL and Excel syntax because people love and trust them. With AI, we’ve taken the same approach by marrying a natural language UI to our data model to ensure accuracy and usability. It’s simple to use and will save you a ton of time.”

  • Christopher Merrick, CTO and Co-Founder at Omni
