Billy Eppler was available to become the Mets’ next general manager in large part because of moves gone wrong during his five-year run as GM with the Angels.
The hope is that with a second chance to be making the final calls, Eppler will be the latest executive or manager to be better in his second top job than in his first. But his experience with the Angels also puts all of his past signings, trades and roster decisions back up for critique. So we obliged.
