Minor league manager jumps into stands after being ejected in bizarre scene

Maybe West Michigan Whitecaps manager Brayan Peña just wanted to grab a hot dog before he made his way back to the clubhouse.

The minor league manager made quite the exit by hopping into the crowd after being ejected in the top of the ninth in a spirited 10-inning affair between the High-A Whitecaps and Lake County Captains on Friday night

Both managers were ejected from the game, but it was Peña that stole the show with his over-the-top reaction to being kicked out.

Peña got right into the face of the home plate umpire appearing to scream and become overly animated as he tried to fight his case.

The Whitecaps manager appeared to exchange words with the umpire for several moments before bench coach Tim Garland tried to create some separation between the two men.

At one point Peña tried to shove Garland away before the two finally start to make their way back to the dugout.

But Peña wasn’t done just yet.

It was at that point he turned and started to come back for more before walking toward the exit.

Unlike other ballparks, in Lake County managers and players have to walk all the way to the right field corner in order to leave the playing surface.

That’s when Peña hoped the barrier, much to the amusement of the broadcaster calling the game and the surprise to the fans sitting in the front row.

Western Michigan — a Detroit Tigers affiliate — dropped the game 9-8 in 10 innings to Lake County,

Peña has been the Whitecaps manager for three seasons now and is a former catcher for the Detroit Tigers.

Under Peña’s stewardship, Western Michigan went 72-59 last season and this year the club has gone 32-29.

While the Whitecaps lost that night, it would be hard to argue that the spectacle Peña put on wasn’t entertaining and gave the fans their money’s worth during a very bizarre baseball game.
