This really is March Madness!
Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan posted her office pool brackets for the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments on social media – to let everyone know she picked the winners based on which states offer legal abortion.
“I filled out my brackets based on whether those schools are located in a state that protects access to abortion care,” the Democrat posted on X Thursday. “By this measurement, it’s only fair that Minnesota didn’t make the tournament because they’d have been a favorite for the title.”

The governor’s reproductive-rights based selection system put California and Oregon in the top slots. X/@LtGovFlanagan She said in matchups where teams were from states “that guarantee abortion access with little to no restrictions,” she went with the higher seed.
“I did the same if there was a matchup of teams from states that have banned abortion,” she added.
For those still trying to keep score, she wound up with the top-seeded University of Connecticut Huskies winning the men’s bracket and the top-seeded USC Trojans winning the women’s bracket.

The latter decision apparently had nothing to do with USC’s mascot having the same name as a popular condom brand.
As expected, her picks were no slam dunk on social media and scored plenty of pushback.
“Posts like this make me so glad I left Minnesota,” wrote @JdpalmerTN.
“Good LORD just when I thought you couldn’t get more embarrassing cringe and grotesque,” added @Robert_Ryan_81. “I hope you enjoy getting roasted.”
