Lightyear Frontier Rebinding keys Feature: Is it available?

Since the demo of Lightyear Frontier came out, lots of folks have been giving it a try. Now that it is released under Steam’s early access program, various in-game issues are popping up. Among these is the issue regarding the keybinds in the game. It looks like many are having trouble changing the controls to fit their liking. This essential feature allows you to customize controls according to your preferences and needs. But is this feature even available? Well, as always, here we are with the answers.

Players have expressed their concerns about the absence of keybinding options in Lightyear Frontier’s demo. You too are probably curious about the ability to customize all keys, including those for menu navigation and different actions like exiting a mech. You might find it inconvenient to use specific keys, like ESC, for certain actions and want the option to change them to something more comfortable. Rebinding keys is a common feature in most games and Lightyear Frontier should have it as well, right?

Lightyear Frontier Rebinding keys Feature Is it available

At the moment, the keybinding option is not available in Lightyear Frontier, as confirmed by the developers themselves. Since Lightyear Frontier is still in early access, it’s understandable that certain features, such as the ability to change keybindings, may not be available yet. Early access allows developers to gather feedback from players and prioritize which features to implement in future updates. Despite players’ requests and feedback, the game currently lacks the functionality to customize keybindings according to individual preferences. This limitation has been acknowledged by the developers.

Devs Response

The developers have responded, stating that key rebinding options are not currently available in Lightyear Frontier but are in their pipeline for future updates. This means that they have plans to include this feature, acknowledging the requests from players. However, they have not specified exactly when this feature will be implemented into the game. So, while players may have to wait for a bit, the developers are actively working on adding this functionality to enhance the gaming experience.

Workaround

You can try and modify the UINavInput.ini file located in the “WindowsNoEditor” folder within the game’s local directory, typically found at “C:UsersyournameAppDataLocalFarMechSavedConfig”. Here, you can find the actions and edit the keybinds for those actions. After this, save the changes. Now, right-click on the file, and select Properties. Next, under the General tab, checkmark the Read-Only attribute and select OK. Now, launch the game, and check if the changes took effect in-game.

When will it be implemented? (speculations)

As for the implementation timeline, keybinding options could potentially be introduced in a few weeks since the game is already in its early access phase, possibly with an update soon. Alternatively, if the situation escalates or if further delays occur, it might not be available until the full release of the game. However, it’s important to note that these are just speculations at this point. Until the developers themselves provide clarity on the timeline, the exact timing of when a key rebinding feature will be implemented remains uncertain.
