Kick-’em-Jenny: Increased activity detected in an underwater volcano

The UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC) has detected a surge in activity at the Kick 'em Jenny (KeJ) underwater volcano, situated eight km north of Grenada.

Kick 'em Jenny is known to be the only active submarine volcano in the Eastern Caribbean.

The heightened activity began at 11:14 pm on Friday, February 9, and lasted until Saturday, February 10.

The most substantial seismic activity, 3.3, was reported on Saturday, February 10.

Reports indicate that these events were perceptible in the northern regions of Grenada.

“Since 3:00 a.m., on 11th February, the activity subsided in magnitude and frequency to almost a complete stop,” mentioned UWI SRC.
