It seems owner John Mara doesn’t want to jinx the Giants.
With a rare chance to take a victory lap for making the right hires and relish in a surprising 5-1 start, Mara was brief in 25 seconds of on-the-move comments to reporters camped at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday in lower Manhattan.
“So far, so good,” Mara said. “We’re on to Jacksonville.”
Mara skipped his annual preseason state of the team during training camp and has offered few comments after wins this season, including telling The Post’s Ian O’Connor “What’s not to like?” and Steve Serby, “It’s nice for the fans to win a game at home, finally. Just happy for them.”
After tying the Jets for a league-worst 22-59 record from 2017-21, the conversation around the Giants has shifted: Are they buyers at the trade deadline? Are quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley playing well enough to secure long-term futures in the final year of their contracts? How about the job that first-year general manager Joe Schoen has done digging out of a salary-cap mess and first-year head coach Brian Daboll and a mostly new staff has done maximizing the roster?
Mara only made time for a question on Jones: “He’s playing very well.”
Jones has five touchdown passes and four turnovers through six games, but he has four-game winning fourth-quarter drives and has shown an ability to elevate an underwhelming supporting cast.
