Giants’ Dexter Lawrence makes second consecutive Pro Bowl

Dexter Lawrence was named to the Pro Bowl on Wednesday, the only Giants representative.

It’s the second straight selection for the defensive lineman, who becomes the first Giant to get selected to consecutive Pro Bowls since Landon Collins made it three times in a row from 2016-18.

He has tied a career-high with seven tackles for loss heading into Sunday’s finale against Philadelphia.

Saquon Barkley was named a second alternate and Kayvon Thibodeaux a third alternate.

Not much has gone right for the Giants lately, but Gunner Olszewski turned his 94-yard punt return for a touchdown on Sunday against the Rams into being named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Olszewski’s return was the longest in the NFL since 2021 and the longest by the Giants in 95 years.

Olszewski was signed to the Giants’ practice squad on Oct. 23, two days after being released by the Steelers.

He was added to the active roster on Nov. 3. In nine games with the Giants, Olszewski has returned 20 punts for a 12.2-yard average.

Including one return with Pittsburgh early in the season, Olszewski ranks fifth in the NFL with a 12.0-yard average.

OL John Michael Schmitz and DB Jason Pinnock didn’t practice Wednesday.

Head coach Brian Daboll said Schmitz is dealing with lower leg/ankle soreness after getting leg-whipped during Sunday’s loss and Pinnock is dealing with a toe injury.

Rookie CB CB Deonte Banks was limited with a shoulder injury and Daboll said he’s “hopeful” Banks will be able to play, adding a decision on his status “could go all the way down to the wire, probably.”

Matt Peart will start at right tackle for the injured Tyre Phillips, who was already filling in for Evan Neal.
