Banishers Ghosts of New Eden crashing & not launching: How to fix it?

Banishers Ghosts of New Eden crashing & not launching: How to fix it?

2024 has already seen a number of great releases 2024 with titles like Palworld, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Tekken 8, and many more. Now, DON’T NOD’s latest title, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, is the newest addition to this slowly expanding list of great 2024 games. Blending in the usual narrative charm of the developer’s past titles with action RPGs, the game’s been turning heads since its release on February 13, 2024. Unfortunately, the game suffers from some technical issues, of which a major one is the game frequently crashing and not launching.

An issue like this isn’t really something new. Lots of newly released titles tend to be plagued by it for one reason or another. For some players, the cause of this issue is overlay, while for others, it’s happening due to hyperthreading and such. Regardless of what the cause here is, an issue like this shouldn’t be left unaddressed. So, let’s go ahead and find out all the possible fixes for this.

Banishers Ghosts of New Eden crashing & not launching: How to fix it?

Banishers Ghosts of New Eden crashing & not launching: How to fix it?

The developers are aware of this issue but so far, they haven’t put out an official fix. So, till the issue is resolved, you can use the workarounds mentioned below.

Run the game in Compatibility mode –

One of the most popular player-suggested workarounds for this issue happens to be this one. Basically, what you need to do is head to the game’s installation folder and find Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s .exe file. Once found, right-click on the exe and select Properties. Next, switch to the Compatibility tab and there you will find the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” option right under Compatibility Mode. Tick the option, and then select Windows 7 from the dropdown menu. After that, don’t forget to also tick the “Disable fullscreen optimizations” option. End the process by clicking on Apply and OK. By the way, you can follow the instructions below if you are unable to locate the game’s installation folder:

  • Open Steam and navigate to Library.

  • Now, find Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and right-click on it.

  • Select Properties, switch to Installed Files, and click on Browse.

  • You will now see the game’s installation folder on your screen.

Disable Hyperthreading –

Another fix for this issue is to disable hyperthreading. Do note that for this, you will need to enter BIOS, so make sure you know how to access BIOS. Now, almost all BIOS tend to be different but the features should be the same. You should start by accessing the Advanced Settings/Mode of your BIOS. After that, try to look for your CPU’s advanced settings. If you are using an Intel PC, try to find Hyperthreading technology. For AMD, look out for SMT or simultaneous multithreading. Once found, disable the option, save your changes, and restart your PC.

Modify shortcut [EGS specific] –

For some players, the main cause of this issue was the Epic Games overlay, provided you got the game via the Epic Games Store. As such, we suggest disabling it and see if it helps fix this. You can use the instructions if you don’t know how to do this:

  • First, head to the game’s installation folder. It should resemble something like this: C:Program FilesEpic GamesBanishersGhostsofNewEdenNWDBinariesWin64Banishers-Win64-Shipping.exe

  • Now, create a shortcut of the game’s exe. After that, right-click on the shortcut and switch to the Shortcut tab.

  • Next, either copy-paste or type in -epicportal to the end of the line next to the Target option. When you are done, click on Apply and OK. Also, close the Epic Games Store launcher if it’s already running.

  • You can now launch the game from the recently created shortcut and enjoy the game without any crashes.

Verify the game files –

It’s not unusual for an issue like this to be caused by the game having either missing or corrupted files. In such cases, the only fix is to verify and repair the game’s files. And to do that, you need to:

Steam

  • Open Steam and navigate to Library.

  • Next, right-click on the game and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.

Epic Games Store

  • Launch the Epic Games Launcher and click on Library from the left panel.

  • Now, select the three dots on the game’s tile and choose Manage > Verify.

Update GPU drivers –

Updating drivers can also do wonders in dealing with this issue. So if you haven’t updated your GPU drivers in a while, go ahead and do so. Make sure you are downloading the drivers through the official websites instead of somewhere else. While you are at it, you can also download the Microsoft C++ Redistributable and install them.

Run the game with admin access –

Players can also try running the game with admin access and see if that helps resolve this issue. Just right-click on the game’s exe, switch to the Compatibility tab, and tick the “Run this program as an administrator” option. After that, click on Apply and OK.

Reinstall –

If nothing else works for you, we recommend that you go ahead and reinstall the game. And if even that doesn’t help, all you can do is wait.
