The best team in the National League…it sure has a nice ring to it.

The Mets’ record says they are, and the way they are playing does too. They will gladly take a series split with the Dodgers without their best pitchers. We all expect Mets-Dodgers to potentially be the NLCS matchup, and boy would it be a good one. After losing the first two games, the Mets made sure to right the ship on Saturday and Sunday.

It was a busy week in Mets land with lots to discuss. We’ve got you covered on the latest “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and yours truly. We debuted the “Stump The Baldie” segment where our producer Andrew Harts tried stumping me with Mets trivia. Figgie also finally teaches me how to say “chicken parm” in spanish.

‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast with Jake & Figgie:

  • HOLLYWOOD SPLITTING: NLCS preview was a good one. Mets showed resiliency to split the series without three starting pitchers. They won the two games with their worst starters out there. Adonis Medina gets his first career save. He’s been solid and needs to be more than just a mop-up reliever for the Mets. Has advantage of players never seeing him pitch.
  • LUGO: Why did Buck Showalter go with Seth Lugo instead of six outs from Edwin Diaz on Sunday? What has happened to Lugo? Figgie gives a really good breakdown to what exactly has changed with Lugo’s delivery that has caused some problems.
  • SMART BUCK/MEGILL: Buck outsmarts Dave Roberts. It’s a good matchup to watch moving forward and when the playoffs come around. Roberts didn’t know about the six-run rule for a position player pitching. Tylor Megill is on the mend after a rehab start and should be back in the rotation within the next week. Trevor Williams will likely leave the rotation when Megill returns.
  • METS NUGGETS: Max Scherzer gets bit by his dog, but should be fine. Dom Smith gets sent down. He’s a likable guy, but needs to play every day in Triple-A to get his groove back. The Johan Santana ceremony was underwhelming. The MAR-TE MARTE MARTE chants at Citi Field are awesome. Joe Girardi gets fired.
  • STUMP THE BALDIE: Producer Andrew Harts tries to stump me with some Mets trivia questions.
  • NELSON FIGUEROA SPANISH ACADEMY: Figgie teaches me how to say “best team in National League” and “chicken parmesan” in spanish.
