A 10-month-old baby in India has been hospitalized with critical injuries to her genitalia after she was brutally raped by domestic help at her home, police said.
The unidentified infant has been hospitalized for specialized care after the doctors found her with severe injuries to her external genitalia, including ruptures to the vagina and anal canal. The shocking incident happened in Lucknow, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Sunday night, police said as reported by Times of India.
The police arrested the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Sunny Kumar, who worked as the family's domestic help Monday. Kumar fled from the home after he was caught assaulting the child but was later taken into custody by the police.
The child's mother was working in the kitchen when she heard the cries of her baby Sunday night. When she rushed to the bedroom she found Kumar assaulting the child. The mother confronted Kumar but he fled the scene.
"Later, on family's complaint, the accused was arrested on Monday and booked for rape, sexual assault and under POCSO Act, "Brijesh Kumar Yadav, a senior investigating officer said, as reported by Deccan Herald.
According to reports from the medics, the child is stable and conscious but suffers from pain during urination and excretion. “Because of the collection of fecal matter in the area, an infection has developed, which is why repairing is not possible right now. We will put her under her anesthesia for further exam and only after the infection subsides if required, reconstruction surgery will be done," Prof. J D Rawat, head of pediatric surgery department where the child is currently being treated, said.

Lizama threatened the boy that he would kill him or his sibling if he revealed the abuse to anyone.
