The man behind the beloved Twitter account that tweeted daily quotes from the long-running FOX TV show “The Simpsons” said he will be deactivating the account after Elon Musk became Twitter’s CEO, reports Insider.
Started in 2013 by now-33-year-old Charlie Southern — who is also a massive fan of the show — the account boasted a whopping 634,000 followers.
“Twitter can be so negative can’t it, and I want people to get on there and see something that’s nostalgic or funny or something that just makes them feel a little bit better,” Southern said.
Spanning nearly a decade, the account has posted 13,000 times.
Southern said that he never expected the account to reach the level of popularity that it did. The British native also revealed one of the writers of the show, Mike Scully, follows the account and told Southern that he loves it.
“It makes me laugh all over again, or it brings back a great memory of being in the room when it was pitched or the first time I read it in somebody’s script,” wrote Scully in a direct message.

“Twitter is obviously changing and it’s quite obvious over the last couple of weeks that the changes are coming through,” said Southern.

Despite ending the account, Southern said it ended on a high note.
“It really was genuinely brilliant to speak to so many people from all over the world and we all have this one thing in common which was a love of classic ‘Simpsons,'” said Southern.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure.”
Several of the accounts fans also lamented the ending of the account.
“This account will be sadly missed,” wrote one user.
