An HBO Max intern recently made a major mistake by sending out a test email to the subscribers of the streaming platform. However, Monica Lewinsky’s message of support to the individual resulted in people jumping to the defense of the former White House intern.
On Thursday, HBO Max subscribers received an email with the subject line, “Integration Test Email # 1.” Meanwhile, the body of the email only contained one sentence, “This template is used by integration tests only.”
Subscribers began joking about the flub on Twitter, and HBO Max later shared a tweet revealing an intern sent out the email.
“We mistakenly sent out an empty test email to a portion of our HBO Max mailing list this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience, and as the jokes pile in, yes, it was the intern. No, really. And we’re helping them through it,” the message read.
On Saturday, Lewinsky’s name began trending after she shared a message of support to the intern. “Dear intern: it gets better,” she wrote.
Although Lewinsky’s tweet appeared to make light of the situation, some people began slamming her over her past scandal with former President Bill Clinton. However, plenty of folks on Twitter rushed to her defense and began calling out spectators who attempted to shame the 47-year-old.
“Monica Lewinsky was a victim who has been constantly painted as having equal power to her abuser in the media. Whatever she wants to say and however she wants to say it is her right,” one person wrote.
Another person applauded Lewinsky for being able to find humor years after her scandal. “Did you see that Monica Lewinsky posted a Dear Intern tweet? Her ability to laugh about it all now and her grace in regards to her life being the biggest story of the late nineties is so impressive,” the individual wrote.
Lewinsky found herself at the center of a national scandal in the 1990s, when her affair with Clinton, while he was in office, was exposed.
Although Lewinsky faced a wave of backlash for her involvement, she has gone on to become an anti-cyberbullying advocate and a contributor at Vanity Fair.
