Mets’ Opening Day rained out, moved back to Friday

The Mets’ Opening Day will include an Opening Delay. 

The Mets’ season-opener against the Brewers at Citi Field has been pushed back a day with rain in the forecast for Thursday.

The Mets instead will begin the season at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, which was a baked-in off day that served as this Opening Day contingency plan.

Fans holding tickets for Thursday’s game can use them Friday, with gates opening at 11:40 a.m. and parking lots at 10:40 a.m.

Jose Quintana will oppose Freddy Peralta in matchup of teams that are used to having more star power at the top of the rotation. 

Kodai Senga was expected to be the Mets’ Opening Day starter before dealing with shoulder issues that will sideline him for the start of the season.

The Mets open the season with a six-game home stand, welcoming the Tigers on Monday after finishing their three-game set against Milwaukee.

Their first road trip is set to begin next Friday against the Reds before they head to Atlanta for a four-game series against the rival Braves, who are the favorites to win the NL East.
