Mets’ Brett Baty sits out again due to hamstring injury

LOS ANGELES — Two days of rest weren’t enough for Brett Baty to convince Mets officials he’s ready to resume at third base.

Baty participated in pregame drills Friday night at Dodger Stadium to test his left hamstring but was absent from the Mets’ starting lineup for a second straight game.

He left Tuesday’s game with tightness in the hamstring after beating out an infield single.

Manager Carlos Mendoza expressed optimism earlier in the week that Baty would avoid a sting on the injury list.

Mendoza was asked Friday if that confidence had waned.

“As of right now we’re confident, but we’ll see how it goes through the workout,” Mendoza said before the Mets’ 9-4 win over the Dodgers.

Joey Wendle, who made two errors, started at third base in Baty’s place. Zack Short received the start at third Wednesday.

Kodai Senga threw a 26-pitch bullpen session at Citi Field and posted a video of it on Instagram with the message “I’m feeling great.”

It was the second mound session in Senga’s rehab from a right shoulder strain that has kept him sidelined since spring training.

The earliest Senga can return from the 60-day IL is May 27.

Michael Tonkin had a good idea his time with the Twins was ending after he threw 48 pitches in relief last Friday, with the team set to play a doubleheader the next day.

He returned Friday to the Mets, who claimed him off waivers from the Twins two days earlier after he was designated for assignment. The Mets had DFA’d Tonkin on April 5.

“It’s been chaotic,” Tonkin said. “A lot of moving parts. You feel lost at times.”

Mets owner Steve Cohen attended the game and held a lengthy conversation with agent Scott Boras before the first pitch. Boras’ clients include Pete Alonso, who also chatted with the agent before the game.

David Peterson threw live batting practice and is about a week away from beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, according to Mendoza.

The left-hander, who underwent November surgery to repair a torn hip labrum, opened the season on the 60-day injured list and is eligible to return May 27. Peterson is part of the team’s rotation depth.

Tylor Megill threw a first bullpen session in his rehab. The right-hander was diagnosed with a shoulder strain following his start on March 31.

Tyler Jay cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse.

The lefty reliever was designated for assignment this week to clear roster space for Tonkin.
