Kyra Sedgwick promises she’s nothing like the overbearing mother she plays in the new ABC sitcom “Call Your Mother.”

“I spend a lot of time zipping my lips, trying not to meddle, waiting for the questions, waiting for the, ‘What do you think, Mom?’ I will wait for that question, rather than [say] I think you should do this or let me make that doctor’s appointment for you,” the 55-year-old actress told The Post with a laugh.

Sedgwick has two kids — son, Travis, 31, and daughter, Sosie, 28 — with husband Kevin Bacon. The couple has been married for over 30 years — the equivalent of 132 years by Hollywood standards.

“The Closer” actress promises that there are no mysterious reasons explaining their happy union.

“Honestly, we just got lucky, there’s no secret, we just got so lucky when we were so young,” she said. “I was 21 when I met him, 23 when we got married. If someone had told me when I was 21 that I was going to be married and have a kid by 23, I would have told them they were out of their minds because I was very ambitious, I was very independent.”

“And then suddenly I met this person, and it was like well this was it. And I was so young and so dumb, and I can’t believe I was smart enough to do that,” she said. “No one is smart when they’re 21. We’re just really lucky, and it’s not hard.”

Sedgwick has a distinguished family tree, which includes a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the founder of Massachusetts’ Groton School and slave owners.

Sedgwick’s ancestors also include Theodore Sedgwick, who helped Elizabeth Freeman, better known as MumBet, win her freedom from slavery. She became the first enslaved person to file and win a freedom suit in Massachusetts. After MumBet won her freedom, she went to work for Sedgwick and is buried in the family crypt.

“We were on the right and the wrong side of that history … It’s something that I’ve known for a long time, and it’s just very much in my brain right now because of what’s been happening,” she said.

“Call Your Mother” will air this Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. EST and move back to its regular schedule — Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. — next week.
