John Mayer: I play guitar naked after sex ‘with a little gut hanging over’

His body is a wonderland.

John Mayer confessed on Tuesday’s episode of “Call Her Daddy” that he likes to play guitar naked after sex.

On the podcast, the 45-year-old singer performed “Dancing in a Burning Room” and “Why Georgia” on his guitar for podcast host Alex Cooper.

“Do you do this before you have sex with someone?” Cooper, 28, asked.

“No, I do it after sometimes,” Mayer admitted. “No, you should never play guitar to have sex with someone, but a little naked guitar playing after is very memorable.”

“With a little gut hanging over, sitting Indian-style on the edge of the bed. It’s nice!” Mayer continued as Cooper laughed. “I like seeing the way people fold up all weird when they sit up. No matter who you are, you look weird when you sit up. And it’s cute.”

While Mayer conceded to singing post-sex, he also shared that he “doesn’t really date” since he got sober in 2016.

“Dating is no longer a codified activity for me, it doesn’t exist in a kind of… it’s not patterned anymore,” he said. “I don’t really date — I don’t think that I have to, to be quite honest. I quit drinking like six years ago, so I don’t have the liquid courage. I just have dry courage.”

He added, “You have to be honest. You have to express yourself. You have to be glaringly honest… You have to express your anxieties, you can’t just walk over them by drinking.”

The “Your Body Is a Wonderland” singer has been linked to many A-list celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly and Jennifer Love Hewitt — but the 2002 Grammy-winning song wasn’t inspired by anyone famous.

“That was about my first girlfriend,” he said. “That was about the feeling, which I think was already sort of nostalgic… I was 21 when I wrote that song and I was nostalgic for being 16.”

When Cooper said she always thought the song was about a specific, unnamed celebrity, he responded: “No, that’s one of those things where people just sort of formed that idea, it gets reinforced over the years, no, no, no. I had never met a celebrity when I wrote that song.”

Mayer also admitted that he “wasn’t a very good A-list celebrity” and was “bad at it.”

“I was really only an A-list celebrity because I was A-list-adjacent and I think I wasn’t good at it,” he said. “Meaning that I didn’t follow the rules I guess? And it was tough to be like ‘You’re going to play music and you’re going to put all into that and not day trading how people feel about you.'”
