Jets’ Ryan Griffin finding place after dreadful 2020 season

Ryan Griffin has already surpassed his offensive production from last season, and there are still seven games left.

Since Tyler Kroft was placed on injured reserve following a lung laceration, Griffin has become even more of a factor at tight end, with eight catches for 88 yards and a touchdown the past three weeks.

Last season, he caught a career-low nine balls for 86 yards after the Jets brought him back on a three-year deal.

“I thought it’s what it should’ve been, really,” Griffin said. “Last year was pretty frustrating for me, but that’s gone. We’re on to this year, playing a lot more with TK out, but I’m all for it.

“I feel really comfortable in every aspect of the offense and looking forward to more on Sunday.”

Receiver Corey Davis was limited in practice on Friday and is being listed as questionable to face the Texans on Sunday, but coach Robert Saleh expects him to play. Davis tweaked his groin on Wednesday.

Defensive linemen John Franklin-Myers (hip), Shaq Lawson (wrist), Nathan Shepherd (elbow) and Folorunso Fatukasi (foot) and linebacker C.J. Mosley (shoulder) were all limited and listed as questionable.

Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur offered high praise for rookie running back Michael Carter, who won’t play on Sunday due to an ankle injury and may miss up to a month.

“It stinks for him. He’s a rookie, but he brings a lot of juice to our unit,” LaFleur said. “He brings a lot of juice to our team in the team meetings. He doesn’t act like a rookie. He doesn’t just take a seat and stay quiet. He is who he is, that big, bold personality that he has.”

It remains a possibility that quarterback Joe Flacco could be active on Sunday. A close contact of fellow quarterback Mike White, who has tested positive for COVID-19, the unvaccinated Flacco has tested negative so far. If he continues to test negative through Saturday, he can fly to Houston for the game, and if he tests negative again on Sunday, the Jets would have the option of activating him.
