As part of The Post’s 2021 NFL Draft preview, we examine what the Jets might do at each position. Friday: Wide receiver.
This is a fascinating position for the Jets. The initial reaction might be they need to give Zach Wilson the kind of weapon they never gave Sam Darnold. But the Jets have so many needs that if they pick a receiver early, they would be ignoring one of those other glaring issues.
The Jets also just invested $27 million guaranteed in Corey Davis and used a second-round pick on Denzel Mims a year ago. That makes me think wide receiver will slide down general manager Joe Douglas’ list of priorities. There are other positions with much more pressing needs.
That being said, the Jets likely will take a receiver at some point in this draft. Some possible third-round picks are North Carolina’s Dyami Brown, Clemson’s Amari Rodgers and Louisville’s Tutu Atwell. If Douglas opts to wait until Day 3 to take a receiver, Auburn’s Seth Williams, Tennessee’s Josh Palmer and Clemson’s Cornell Powell are intriguing names to watch.
Anyone taken on Day 3 should not be expected to have an immediate impact on offense, but could see time on special teams as a rookie and provide depth at a position at which the Jets need some.
