Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
On Saturday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex marked the 20th anniversary of the tragedy by blacking out the homepage of their Archewell Foundation website and displaying the text "In Memoriam: September 11, 2001."
They listed all 2,977 names of the people killed at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and on United Flight 93 on the homepage.
The Sussexes' move came after Prince Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, remembered the victims of 9/11 with a special ceremony held in England. The "Star-Spangled Banner" was played during the Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle on Saturday morning.
Her Majesty similarly played the U.S. national anthem at Buckingham Palace in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attacks two decades ago, People reported.
The Queen also issued a statement to President Joe Biden that was shared on the Royal Family Twitter account.
"As we mark the 20th anniversary of the terrible attacks on 11th September 2001, my thoughts and prayers — and those of my family and the entire nation — remain with the victims, survivors and families affected, as well as the first responders and rescue workers called to duty," Queen Elizabeth wrote.
"My visit to the site of the World Trade Center in 2010 is held fast in my memory. It reminds me that as we honor those from many nations, faiths and backgrounds who lost their lives, we also pay tribute to the resilience and determination of the communities who joined together to rebuild," she added.
Social media users thanked the monarch for her gesture and offered their own tributes.
"Beautiful message, Your Majesty! We will never forget," one person commented with prayer and broken hearts emojis.
"Dear Majesty, thank you for these beautiful words. I reflected on my Mum's experiences in 'The Blitz.' Her experiences, courage then gave me strength to carry on. It was a horrific, frightening day - so much uncertainty & eerieness," another added.
