How Leonardo DiCaprio’s father landed a cameo role in ‘Licorice Pizza’

Like son, like father.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s dad George is getting into the acting biz just like his famous son.

The 47-year-old’s father scored a fun cameo role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest project, “Licorice Pizza.” George portrays a water bed salesman in the comedy-drama.

New York Times writer Kyle Buchanan tweeted an outtake from an interview he recently conducted with the director which revealed how George came to be in the flick.

“I created a picture of a guy who owned a wig shop that sold these water beds, and I couldn’t put my finger on it,” Anderson, 51, said. “I kept saying, ‘Who do I know that looks like this?’”

“And like a bolt of lightning, I remember, like, ‘Leo’s dad looks exactly like this.’ So I tracked him down, asked him if he’d ever be interested in being in a film. [George] said, ‘Sure.’ I explained the scenario to him. He said, ‘Sounds great. Did Leo tell you that I owned a water bed company?’ It was called Foggy Bottom,” Anderson explained.

Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza,” which hit select theaters Nov. 26, is about “Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around and going through the treacherous navigation of first love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973,” according to the official longline.

The film stars Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Sean Penn, Tom Waits and Bradley Cooper, and hits theaters nationwide on Christmas day.

While DiCaprio has never worked with the “There Will be Blood” filmmaker, the two do share another connection.

The “Great Gatsby” star was in the running to play Dirk Diggler in Anderson’s 1997 drama film “Boogie Nights.” However, DiCaprio turned down the role of the wannabe porn star, which went to Mark Wahlberg, so he could star in another blockbuster movie: James Cameron’s “Titanic.”
