Gleyber Torres’ night ends early due to back stiffness

The Yankees lost shortstop Gleyber Torres to low back stiffness early in their game against the Blue Jays on Thursday night in Buffalo.

According to the team, he will be further evaluated on Friday.

Torres may have suffered the injury in the third inning on a Bo Bichette ground ball. The 24-year-old lost his footing after throwing to second base for the force play and fell backward. He stayed down for a few moments.

Torres was pinch-hit for by Rougned Odor at the top of the fourth inning. Odor then entered the game at second base and Tyler Wade moved over to shortstop.

Earlier this year, Torres missed a week after testing positive for COVID-19. So far this season, Torres posted 22 runs and 56 hits with a .342 OBP.
