Giants vs. Braves prediction: Runs will be at a premium

The San Francisco Giants are 15-1 in Logan Webb’s last 16 starts and will look to him to help maintain the team’s lead in the NL West race on Friday against the Atlanta Braves.

Webb has allowed more than three runs just once in those 16 starts, and he has given up two runs or fewer in 14 of them. In 10 pitching appearances in San Francisco, he has allowed four home runs across 54 ¹/₃ innings with a 1.66 ERA and 5-0 record.

The Braves counter with Ian Anderson, who has been consistent away from Atlanta with a 3.64 road ERA with seven home runs allowed across 54 ¹/₃ innings. At home he has a 3.58 ERA, .214 opponents batting average and five home runs allowed in 55¹/₃ innings.

The Giants’ 3.04 bullpen ERA is the best in MLB. While the Braves are near league average for the season in that stat, since the All-Star break they have the sixth-best bullpen ERA (3.55).

With the Giants averaging 1.3 home runs per game in San Francisco compared to 1.7 on the road and the Braves team ERA on the road being 3.80 compared to 4.17 at home, Friday’s possible playoff preview will feature lots of good pitching.

The play: Braves-Giants total, Under 7.5 runs.
