Former Astros prospect Ronny Garcia dies in traffic accident at 24

Former Astros prospect, Ronny Garcia, died in a traffic accident in Samana, Dominican Republic at age 24.

According to MLB Insider Héctor Gómez, Garcia was with his father, who also passed away on Saturday.

A third person reportedly died as a result of the accident that was between two motorcycles on the Las Galeras-Samaná highway, per El Tiempo.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Astros prospect, Ronny Garcia. Our condolences go out to his family and friends,” the Astros shared on X Saturday morning.

The relief pitcher played for the Astros in the minor league for seven years from 2017 to 2023 and accumulated a 9-15 record in his outings.

Garcia recorded a 3.42 ERA over 122 games and 186.2 innings pitched while allowing 170 hits, 71 earned runs, eight home runs, 100 walks, and he struck out 200 batters he faced.
