Tacoma, Washington -- A totaled 2020 McLaren 600 LT was found abandoned on the side of a road in Washington state after its owner allegedly fled the scene following a crash.
The sports car, which can zoom up to 200 mph, is worth more than $200,000. According to Washington State authorities, the luxury car can reach speeds of up to 124 mph in less than 10 seconds.
However, it came to a stop after apparently crashing into a guard rail along State Road 512 near Tacoma, the New York Post reported.
The state police Tuesday tweeted photos of the destroyed white McLaren, and said troopers were investigating the hit-and-run accident.
“We aren’t sure. The driver fled the scene!” trooper Robert Reyer said after someone asked if there were any injuries in the incident.
The photos show the car wedged under the guard rail with its scissor door open on the driver’s side.
Trooper John Dattilo told the Oregonian authorities haven’t found the owner of the car. It was towed away Monday night, according to the newspaper.
“This kind of crash happens all the time, where people don’t want to get in trouble so they leave the car behind,” Dattilo told the Oregonian. “But it’s not necessarily common for it to be a $200,000 McLaren, though.”
The car, which still had dealership plates, wasn’t reported stolen, and its registered owner lived in Washington, Dattilo said, according to the outlet.
One person commented on the Twitter post, writing: "Holy hell, how hard was the McLaren pushed into the guardrail, and, is everyone OK?" to which Reyer replied: "It was a hit-and-run collision, so unfortunately we have no details as to the condition of the driver."
Another person questioned how it could be a hit-and-run if there's only one vehicle involved, to which a commenter replied: "Well, the driver and the owners of the guardrail that was damaged (state, county or city responsible for the guardrail). So yeah, hit-and-run."
Many users came up with theories about the incident, with one saying: "Maybe something was in his system and he didn’t want to get a DUI," while another commented: "How much you wanna bet it's was someone from the dealership, newly signed athlete or someone with diplomatic immunity."
