She was unimpressed.
Emma Stone, 35, who won Best Actress for “Poor Things” at the 2024 Oscars, beating the expected winner, Lily Gladstone, in an upset, didn’t appear pleased by host Jimmy Kimmel’s sex joke.
In his opening monologue, Kimmel, 56, played a short clip from Stone’s film, and cracked, “Those were all the parts of ‘Poor Things’ that we’re allowed to show on TV,” referring to the movie’s steamy R-rated content.
Stone could be seen in the audience, turning to her husband, comedian and writer Dave McCary, who she married in 2020. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Louise, in 2021.
It looked like Stone rolled her eyes and said “Oh my god” to her husband after Kimmel’s joke.

But, other viewers online thought she said to her husband, “What a pr–k,” referring to Kimmel.
“Emma Stone calling Jimmy Kimmel a ‘pr–k’ after he insinuated that Poor Things was only about sex….” one fan posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Stone, who tearfully accepted the award for “Poor Things,” later appeared stunned by her win. She also suffered a wardrobe malfunction onstage, telling the audience that her Louis Vuitton gown had ripped.
“Oh boy, my dress is broken. I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken.’ I’m pretty sure,” she said, referring to Ryan Gosling’s showstopping performance of his song from “Barbie.”
She and Gosling, 43, have been longtime pals and previously worked together on “La La Land,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “Gangster Squad.”

“The women in this category… I share this with you,” Stone went on. “I’m in awe of you and it has been such an honor to do all this together and I hope we keep doing more together.”
“I was panicking as you can kind of see, it happens a lot, that maybe something like this could happen. And [‘Poor Things’ director Yorgos Lanthimos said to me, ‘Please take yourself out of it.’ And he was right because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts and that is the best part about making movies: It’s all of us, together,” she continued.
“And I am so deeply honored to share this with every cast member, with every crew member, with every single person who poured their love and their care and their brilliance into the making of this film. And Yorgos, thank you for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter. I am forever thankful for you. Thank you for inviting all of us to be members of this team.”

In addition to Best Actress for Stone, “Poor Things” took home Oscars for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
“[The sex] is obviously a huge part of her experience and her growth, as it is, I think, for most people in life,” Stone told BBC Radio 4’s ‘Front Row’ in January of the film. “So for the camera to sort of shy away from that, or to say like, ‘Okay, well, we’ll just cut all of this out because our society functions in a particular way’ … it felt like a lack of being honest about who Bella is.”
“Poor Things” also stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley and Ramy Youssef.
