Channing Tatum to reprise his ‘Magic Mike’ role for third film

Channing Tatum is returning to his stripper roots once again.

The “21 Jump Street” star, 41, is teaming up with director Steven Soderbergh to release the next installment of the stripper flick “Magic Mike.”

The 2012 film was based on Tatum’s experiences as a dancer in his youth before hitting it big time in Hollywood.

Tatum shared a photo of the third film’s script title page on Monday, revealing the movie’s title and screenwriter. “Well world, looks like Mike Lane’s tapping back in. @hbomax,” the “Step Up” actor tweeted.

“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” will have Soderbergh directing and Reid Carolin writing the script. The dramedy is set to premiere exclusively on HBO Max.

“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” follows the movie series’ 2015 sequel “Magic Mike XXL.” Tatum will be reprising his role as stripper Mike Lane.

“Is there anybody on screen more charismatic and appealing than Magic Mike? We’re thrilled to be back in business with Channing, Steven and their creative team to bring back Magic Mike’s wonderful combination of dance, drama, romance and humor,” Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures group, said in a statement to Deadline.

“There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of ‘Magic Mike’ with Steven, [‘Magic Mike’ director] Greg [Jacobs], Reid, and the amazing people at HBO Max. The stripperverse will never be the same,” Tatum said.

Soderbergh added in the statement, “As soon as I saw what Channing, Reid, and the ‘Magic Mike’ choreographic team did with the live show, I said we have to make another movie. Mike Lane’s dream of connecting people through dance must be realized.”

The threequel news comes hot of the back of HBO Max’s recent announcement of a Magic Mike-themed reality show. “Finding Magic Mike,” which premieres Dec. 16 on the streamer, will follow 10 men who have “lost their magic” and put them through a hardcore “Magic Mike” boot camp. The men will learn and perform dance routines and compete for a cash price and a chance to perform on the “Magic Mike Live” stage in Las Vegas.

“Magic Mike Live” is a stage show that was launched in Vegas and grew to theaters in London, Berlin and even down under to Australia. The show will soon be heading on a North American tour, kicking off on April 6 in Nashville.
