Bronny James has ‘tough’ decisions to make amid transfer portal rumors: LeBron

LeBron James added more intrigue about his son Bronny’s basketball future. 

Bronny spent his freshman season playing for USC, but a post on X on Tuesday night from college hoops reporter Dick Weiss indicated that the NBA legend’s son would enter the transfer portal. 

The original report has since been deleted and retracted, with Weiss later posting that he couldn’t confirm the transfer portal news but that it would “make sense if it happens.”

A report from the Orange County Register also indicated that Bronny would more likely prep for the NBA draft than enter the transfer portal.

Prior to the Register’s report coming to light, James was asked about Bronny potentially going into the portal following the Lakers’ win over the Raptors in Toronto.

“I don’t where [the report] came from, but at the end of the day Bronny is his own man,” James said. “He has some tough decisions to make and when he’s ready to make those decisions he’ll let us all know. But as his family, we’ll support whatever he does.” 

There has been speculation that Bronny could enter this year’s NBA draft, and Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN last month that any decision regarding LeBron’s son entering the draft would be based on what teams were interested in him and not where he would be selected. 

James had also expressed in the past interest in playing with Bronny in the NBA before he retired. 

The report on Bronny entering the transfer portal comes after USC head coach Andy Enfield departed the program for the job at SMU.

The Trojans went 15-18 in Bronny’s first NCAA season with the program.

He appeared in 25 games, with six of those being starts. 

He didn’t make his USC debut until the ninth game of the season against Long Beach State after he suffered cardiac arrest while going through a summer workout at USC.

He averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game.
