Alex Rodriguez has accepted the fact that he and Jennifer Lopez won't be getting back together months after their split, a report says.
Rodriguez had held out hope that Lopez would give him another chance after they announced the end of their engagement in April, an unnamed source told Entertainment Tonight. However, he's put that hope to rest after she rekindled her romance with Ben Affleck.
"When they first split, he wanted to work things out, and still held on to hope that he and J.Lo would get back together," the insider said. "He's come to terms with the fact that it's over now."
According to the source, Rodriguez is aware of the attention on Lopez and Affleck's rekindled flame but is now focusing on himself and his future.
When Lopez and Affleck were spotted together in Miami last month, Rodriguez announced on his Instagram Story that he plans to focus on a "new beginning."
"I am about to step into a new beginning in my life. Anything that doesn't serve me is clearly out of my life," the former MLB star wrote. "New energy is emerging. New levels are unlocking for me mentally, physically, and spiritually."
In April, Us Weekly quoted a source as saying that the former MLB star was "very sore" over reports that Affleck and Lopez were hanging out again because he had been hoping to reconcile with the singer. It was reportedly the first time that he'd been dumped so publicly.
"Seeing her running straight back to Ben’s arms is a real kick in the teeth," the unnamed source said. "There’s a part of him that still clings onto the hope that they’ll wind up together again but deep down he’s had to accept the harsh truth that she’s over him and moving on with Ben. It’s a tough pill to swallow but that’s his new reality."
It was also reported that Rodriguez was shocked by how quickly Lopez had moved on after their split.
"Jennifer and Alex have remained in contact after breaking up and have even seen each other since the split. The two plan to remain friends and are also in business together," an anonymous insider told ET in May. "Alex understands that Jennifer is single, but felt shocked by [her and Affleck's] quick meetup. At the end of the day, Alex wants Jennifer to be happy, but the way everything has unfolded doesn't sit well with him."
Sources also previously told ET that Lopez "tried her hardest" to make things work with Rodriguez, but their relationship "wasn’t making her happy anymore" as they were having some trust issues.
