- Isaiah Thomas was dubbed “King of the Fourth” by Boston fans during his tenure with the team
- He’s averaging 12 points and close to four boards a game this season with the Wizards
- Boston fans are asking him to return to Boston
The NBA Trade Deadline didn’t turn out too well for someone who was at the conversation for the most valuable player debate around three years ago. Now, it’s the fans’ turn to uplift someone who’s carried the load for their beloved team.
Isaiah Thomas was bound to play with one of the favorites this season after a three-team shuffle between the Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, and the Los Angeles Clippers but the latter opted to keep only Marcus Morris and decided to waive the 5-foot-9 guard. He’s played the most number of games since hurting his hip three years ago and has been providing solid numbers – 12.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 rebounds in 23 minutes in 40 games with Washington.
Thomas had his best years with the Boston Celtics and his stellar play with the franchise won the hearts of the fans. A true professional, he showed up to the game just a day after learning the death of his sister Chyna in a vehicular accident after practice. He was crying during warm-ups and still teary-eyed during the player introductions but still, he poured in 33 points in 106-102 loss to the Chicago Bulls to draw first blood in their playoff series.
In his final season with the Celtics, he’s averaged a career-best 28.9 points and three rebounds per game during the regular season before the team’s leading scorer was ruled out for the remaining of the 2017 post-season due to an injury to his hip. He jumped out from different teams – Cleveland, Los Angeles, Denver, and Washington – before the trade happened but it turns out that his tenure with his hometown was cut after sending him to the Los Angeles Clippers, who waived him days after.
Now left without a team in the mid-season, the fans are now returning the favor as the former Washington Husky posted on his social media that he’s staying patient, after all, that happened during the trade deadline.
He also posted something that looks like he’s leaving it up to the air.
Curious fans are starting to think that the 30-year old scorer is talking about a return to the city that loved him.
