MMA News: Pinoy BRAVE CF Star Explains Why Ex-UFC Champ Won’t Succeed In Comeback

KEY POINTS

  • Rolando Dy feels Conor McGregor’s main problem is “comfort"
  • McGregor is far from returning to UFC action
  • Dy suggests it would be best for McGregor to face lower-ranked fighters

Mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Conor McGregor remains out of action as he tries to recuperate from a horrific leg injury he suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 this past July.

Although recent updates look promising, Filipino fighter and UFC veteran Rolando Dy believes that there is another thing to consider.

In the opinion of Dy, who now competes under the banner of BRAVE Combat Federation, “comfort” is the main problem that “The Notorious” will have to hurdle.

Dy shared his thoughts when he appeared on the Sports Bytes PH podcast on Thursday, December 2, hosted by Filipino journalist Brian Yalung.

“I’m a very big fan of Conor McGregor, but I don’t think he can succeed in getting back to the top. He is very rich. He is living a lifestyle that is not that of a fighter. He is drinking, smoking… he has it all,” Dy stated.

“But the No. 1 mistake of a fighter, the No. 1 sin is comfort. If you find comfort, there is no more hunger. You just want to maintain it. It’s very hard to fight a hungry lion. It would be difficult to fight a hungry lion over a lion that is the zoo."

McGregor continues to train with hopes of fighting inside the Octagon again.

The former two-division UFC world champion showed off some photos on his Instagram account, looking pretty jacked up.

It remains to be seen when the Irishman can officially return to action. Nothing is set in stone, and all the 33-year-old Irishman can do is continue to rehab and train.

McGregor vows to make the greatest comeback ever, but not all are confident of him being the same fighter that he was in the past years.

A wise route back to the top is to face a lower-ranked fighter first. This was also pointed out by Dy.

“After his surgery, he doesn’t look that hungry because he is already too rich. Considering he will go up against hungry lions such as Dustin Poirier and all of those monsters waiting for his comeback," Dy stated.

"The only way for Conor to win and comeback is if he starts with a tune-up fight against a fighter below the top 10 or even a top 8. But he is unlikely to win against a top-five opponent."

For his part, “The Incredible” is on the comeback trail as well. He is set to fight on December 18 at BRAVE CF 56, where he will face Slobodan Maksimovic at the Belexpocentar in Belgrade, Serbia.
