Minor Rape Survivor Fatally Strangles 2-Month-Old Baby Over Financial Problems

A minor girl, who was a rape survivor, allegedly strangled her 2-month-old baby to death in India after failing to take care of the child due to financial trouble, the police said.

The incident took place in Indore, a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

The minor girl was arrested for killing her own child soon after she confessed to the crime, Rajesh Vyas, a senior police officer, told ANI. Authorities have registered a murder case, and have kept the minor girl in their custody, News Bytes reported.

“A few days ago, a minor girl was raped after which she gave birth to a child. Her family members were putting pressure on her to get married. She was frustrated and killed her two-month-old baby. She has confessed to her crime," Vyas said, according to ANI.

The cause of the death of the infant was not previously known. An autopsy revealed the baby had been strangled to death.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident. The girl’s guardians and family members are also being questioned, the police said, according to News 18.

Details about when the girl was raped and if a case had been registered were not immediately available.

There are several instances in which domestic trouble and financial problems become reasons for people to take such dire steps.

Earlier this month, a 30-year-old mother was arrested for throwing her six children into a deep well that led to their deaths. It is believed domestic problems led to the woman taking such a horrific step. The woman, identified as Runa Sahani, pushed her five daughters and one son, all aged between one-and-a-half years and 10 years, into a 20-feet deep well. The deceased children were identified as Roshni, Karishma, Reshma, Vidya, Shivraj and Radha. The police said Sahani attempted suicide after killing her children, but was rescued by a passer-by. "The woman was saved by the passer-by but by the time the children were taken out, they were all dead,” senior police officer Ashok Dudhe said, according to Hindustan Times. Later, the police learned her husband, Chikhuna, was an alcoholic, who was always suspicious of her. She was tired of the endless fights and domestic trouble, which was allegedly why she decided to end her life along with her children.
