Mike McDaniel ‘quit’ vaping after Bills playoff game sideline incident

One of the great mysteries of our time appears to have been solved.

During the Dolphins’ AFC Wild Card game against the Bills this past season, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel was spotted by internet sleuths appearing to vape on the sidelines during the third quarter of the game.

McDaniel appeared on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast and was asked point-blank by Dan Katz if he was indeed vaping on the sidelines.

“Vaping? Like water vape? Hmm. What a confusing question. I don’t know this technology you speak of,” McDaniel said wryly.

“Having said that, I will leave you with this. In past lives, I have vaped. Regardless, just the idea of that being something that people are talking about after a playoff game is annoying enough to provoke me to never do it again, and I’ve since quit, classic McDaniel style, cold turkey, just like alcohol.”

After seemingly admitting to it, McDaniel returned to playing coy.

“But you know, as far as a game, I’m sorry I wish I was better schooled on the subject,” he said.

“I just don’t totally know what you guys are talking about.”

McDaniels’ answer is contrary to what Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had said when asked if his head coach had been vaping.

“It didn’t [look like it],” Tagovailoa said. “I think it was cold. They were in Buffalo, maybe, or New England. … I don’t think he’s a vaper, so I’m not too sure.”

Earlier this week, Mike McDaniel was in the news for declining to comment about rumors that the Dolphins would be interested in acquiring Dalvin Cook if the running back is released by the Vikings.

“March 6, 1983, the day I was born, right? Now we take a closer look at that date and that in fact was not yesterday,” McDaniel said.

“Okay, so people that are rumored to be tall, short, people that are rumored to be, you’re not going to get this guy. I’m Year Two. Okay? What I am excited about is talking about the most important thing which is the third day of veteran minicamp and we’ve got a lot of guys that are good players that have an opportunity to get better. Answer your question?”
