The Mets will return to full seating capacity at Citi Field on Monday to start the next homestand, the club announced.
Social distancing and mask requirements at the ballpark have been eased, effective immediately.
Fans no longer have to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination to enter the ballpark with a valid ticket. But unvaccinated fans still will be required to wear a mask.
The Mets are in the process of communicating with ticket holders regarding capacity increases and the elimination of vaccinated and unvaccinated seating sections.
Luis Rojas downplayed Dellin Betances’ rough performance in a minor league rehab game for Single-A St. Lucie. The right-hander allowed five runs in the seventh inning, retiring only one batter. It was the second rehab appearance for Betances, who was placed on the IL in early April with a right shoulder impingement.
“I’m aware that he didn’t finish the inning, that he got one out, but we were not looking from the performance part of giving up runs or not being able to finish an inning right now,” Rojas said before the Mets’ 6-3 win over the Cubs at Citi Field.
“We just want to see his reads, we want to see his arm if it was in the correct slot, if he was consistently hitting the release point that we want and obviously how he feels after the outing,” Rojas said. “All those are good, where we want them, and that’s it. We are looking forward to his next outing.”
Sean Reid-Foley and Robert Gsellman are among the candidates to start in Saturday’s doubleheader in Washington, according to Rojas. Marcus Stroman is scheduled to pitch Thursday’s series finale against the Cubs, and Rojas said David Peterson will pitch Sunday in Washington.
