Madonna, who recently drew criticism over her risque non-fungible token (NFT) collection, remains one of the richest female singers in the world today. Here's a look at her career and multimillion-dollar fortune.

Madonna sparked backlash on social media Wednesday when she debuted an NFT collection called "Mother of Creation" that features the pop superstar fully nude while giving birth to butterflies, trees and insects.

She has since defended the project, telling Beeple creator Mike Winklemann in an interview: "I'm doing what women have been doing since the beginning of time, which is giving birth. But on a more existential level, I'm giving birth to art and creativity and we would be lost without both," according to Entertainment Weekly.

Even without her new venture, the 63-year-old singer already has a massive fortune.

Madonna is worth $550 million, according to a 2021 Forbes estimate. Last year, she tied with Taylor Swift at 58th place in the magazine's list of the richest self-made women in America.

Today, Madonna is considered the top-earning solo touring artist of all time, raking in $1.5 billion from her concert tours throughout her decades-long career.

Her highest-grossing tour, 2008's "Sticky and Sweet Tour," made about $411 million, according to Parade. Her "MDNA Tour” in 2012 grossed $305 million.

Madonna last went on tour in 2019, with her "Madame X World Tour" grossing $51.4 million, according to the outlet.

She rose to fame in the '80s thanks to chart-topping songs such as "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin."

Since entering the music scene, the singer has released 14 studio albums, three soundtrack albums, six live albums and seven compilation albums, among other releases.

Her 14th studio album, "Madame X," was released in June 2019. "Crazy For You," "Live to Tell," "Papa Don’t Preach" and "Open Your Heart" are among her hit songs.

Her top-selling albums include 1987's "True Blue," which sold an astounding 25 million copies, and 1985's "Like A Virgin," which sold 21 million copies.

In addition to having a successful music career, Madonna has also ventured into acting. She appeared in several films including "Evita," "A League of Their Own" and "Desperately Seeking Susan."

Madonna also makes money from the sales of her children’s books, which include "The English Roses," and receives hefty paychecks from her endorsement deals with brands such as H&M, Dolce & Gabbana and MDNA skincare.
