The Stanley Cup is heading to the injured reserve.
The Cup sustained visible damage during Monday’s boat parade in Tampa celebrating the Lightning’s recent championship.
The legendary trophy will be sent to Montreal to undergo repairs before returning in time for an additional celebration this weekend, according to The Athletic.
After a beer-and-rain soaked celebration — the Lightning players took the Cup on a boat parade for the second time in 10 months before Monday’s festivities were canceled due to rain — a photo of the misshapen Cup made the round on social media:
The Cup is no stranger to nicks and bruises. In past celebrations, it has accompanied players to clubs, fallen off tables and even been used as a bowl for dog food.
Fear not, however. It’s not the original bowl, which was retired in 1970, nor is it the only Cup in the Hockey Hall of Fame arsenal. The dented Cup is the “Presentation Cup,” while the “Replica Cup” remains in Toronto just in case the traveling one is rendered irreparable.
