Liberty survive Mystics scare for OT win in Game 2 to take series

The Liberty said it would take a 40-minute effort to get past Washington.

Turns out it took 45.

In a back-and-forth game of runs, the Liberty made the last one count in a 90-85 overtime victory.

The sloppy, frenetic first-round Game 2 win clinched the series 2-0 before a sellout crowd of 9,256 at Barclays Center.

It was the first time the Liberty have taken a playoff series since 2017 when former Pistons Bad Boy Bill Laimbeer guided them to a second-round exit.

But with this star-studded roster, red-hot momentum and the second-best record in the WNBA, their sights are set far higher than that.

The Liberty will await the winner of the Connecticut-Minnesota series in the WNBA semis, starting on Sept. 24.

MVP candidate Breanna Stewart bounced back from a subpar opener with a team-high 27 points and nine rebounds.

But she had plenty of help, as center Jonquel Jones added 19 points and 14 rebounds to dominate the paint.
