LeSean McCoy rips Eric Bieniemy after Chiefs spat with Patrick Mahomes

A brief, televised argument between Patrick Mahomes and Eric Bieniemy was all the room LeSean McCoy needed to pounce on a coach he does not appear to like.

McCoy, who played with the Chiefs for 13 games in 2019, watched Mahomes, the team’s star quarterback, and Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator, exchange words and gestures at halftime during a loss to the Colts in Indianapolis. Mahomes had wanted to be more aggressive before the break, while Bieniemy called for a second-and-20 run that ran out the clock.

While fans attempted to read lips and hand motions, McCoy directed his ire toward the Chiefs coach instead.

“All bieniemy does is argue wit the players .. KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT passing or PLAY CALLING,” McCoy commented under B/R Gridiron’s video of the dispute.

McCoy did not star in his one season with the Kansas City offense, running for four touchdowns and 465 yards as a change-of-pace back, and was made inactive throughout much of the playoffs. The former Eagles and Bills star was 31 years old and one year away from retirement.

He has spoken out against Bieniemy — the highly regarded coordinator who cannot land a head-coaching job — on a few occasions.

“There’s a reason why every year they keep hyping him up to get a head coaching job, or an offensive coordinator job somewhere else, and he don’t get one,” McCoy told SiriusXM’s “I am Athlete Tonight” in May.

“He talks to players a certain way, and some players would take it. I wouldn’t take it. There’s some questions I’m gonna ask. Everyone’s accountable. It’s not because he’s a black coach [that he’s not getting hired]. That’s not the reason.”

McCoy added that “no one hires him because they know what type of coach he really is.”

Bieniemy has been a largely successful coach, though, one who argued with Mahomes before a fourth-quarter letdown that allowed the Colts to win, 20-17.

After the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid — who had lightly whisked Mahomes away from Bieniemy during the exchange — told reporters it “wasn’t a confrontation at all. That’s not what it was.”
