Kissing Fran Drescher made ‘The Nanny’ star Charles Shaughnessy’s kids upset

Turns out Maxwell Sheffield didn’t like kissing Fran Fine.

Despite “The Nanny” going off the air some 22 years ago, star Charles Shaughnessy is looking back on his time working with star Fran Drescher in the ’90s sitcom.

The British actor, 66, revealed that his daughters weren’t so keen on having their dad plant a smooch on Drescher, 63, during filming.

“I came home one day, and Maddy was very upset,” Shaughnessy told People. “She had seen the show that night and said, ‘Daddy, don’t kiss the girl.’ She wasn’t very keen on all the Fran and Maxwell chemistry.”

Shaughnessy shares daughters Jenny, 31, and Maddy, 26, with his wife, Susan Fallender.

When asked if he would be down for a “Nanny” reunion sometime in the near future, the “Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal” star admitted that “it would be a lot of fun.”

Shaughnessy continued, “It’s hard because people see ‘The Nanny’ now, it’s 30 years old, so we’re all different. I’m a lot older. She’s a lot older. The kids are a lot older. You see that and you kind of want to re-create that, but it’s un-re-creatable.”

“The train has left the station. We’re down the tracks awhile. You can’t really re-create that magic. You can create something else using some of the elements, but it’s not going to be what it was originally,” he said. “I have questions about reboots, in general, but if someone comes up with it and offers me to revisit Maxwell Sheffield, I’d be delighted.”

“The Nanny” aired on CBS from 1993 until 1999 for six seasons.

He also recalled some of his best memories from the show. “My most favorite thing about the show was the guest stars,” he said. “We kicked off in Episode 2 with Carol Channing and then went through all the sort of Broadway [stars], Marvin Hamlisch and Burt Bacharach. Then we went into Elton John. We had Ray Charles coming on as Auntie Yetta’s boyfriend. Elizabeth Taylor!”

Shaughnessy’s most recent gig is playing ISA agent Shane Donovan on “Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem.” The actor reprised his role in the five-part limited series spinoff of “Days of Our Lives.”
