Kenny Golladay’s sad Giants season takes another step back with injury

Kenny Golladay’s bizarre Giants season has taken another twist.

The $72 million wide receiver suffered an MCL sprain during Sunday’s win against the Bears at MetLife Stadium, according to NFL Network, and the 28-year-old is not expected to travel with the team to London for Sunday’s game against the Packers.

In theory, this would be a blow to an already banged-up receiving corps, but the Giants (3-1) may not miss Golladay all that much considering his lack of involvement in the offense under first-year head coach Brian Daboll.

Golladay has a grand total of two catches and 22 yards this season, all from the team’s Week 1 win over the Titans in Nashville, where he played 77 percent of the offensive snaps. He played just three percent of the snaps in a Week 2 win over the Panthers without a target; he was targeted three times with no receptions while playing 33 percent of the snaps in a Week 3 Monday night loss to the Cowboys; he had just one target with no catches while playing 42 percent of the snaps against the Bears.

Golladay lamented his lack of playing time three days after the win over the Panthers.

“I came here to play,’’ he said. “I’m pretty sure they’re also paying me to play. They want to see more I guess.

“I really don’t agree with it or like it. But I can only control what I can control, and that’s coming to work every day. If I was in the game [vs. the Panthers], I feel like everything that was done in the game I for sure could’ve done. We won at the end of the day, which is good.”

The Giants are in need of bodies at wide receiver. Sterling Shepard is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL on the final offensive play against the Cowboys. Kadarius Toney has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury and was also surrounded by usage questions over the first two weeks. Rookie Wan’Dale Robinson has not played since suffering a knee injury in Week 1. The team has been reliant on the likes of Richie James and David Sills.

Along with injuries to quarterbacks Daniel Jones (ankle) and Tyrod Taylor (concussion), there is a world of uncertainty about the Giants’ offense as they prepare for an international trip.
