Kansas City mayor comes to Jackson Mahomes’ defense after water dump

The Mahomes family name is reaching “can do no wrong” status in Kansas City.

After Patrick Mahomes’ little brother Jackson Mahomes poured a bottle of water on Ravens fans during the Chiefs’ loss in Baltimore on Sunday night, the internet lashed out at the 21-year-old. But Jackson did have one prominent big defender on social media – Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas.

“Leave Jackson Mahomes alone,” Lucas wrote in a tweet on Tuesday.

Minutes later, Patrick’s fiancee and Jackson’s future sister in-law, Brittany Matthews, responded to Lucas’ tweet in support.

“PREACH,” Matthews wrote.

Jackson is lucky to have the city’s mayor on his side, and he can thank his brother’s esteemed NFL career to this point for it. Patrick became the youngest MVP in NFL history for the Chiefs in 2018 (before Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson stole that title in 2019), and led the team to its first Super Bowl championship since 1969 one year later.

In July 2020, Patrick signed a record-setting 10-year, $500 million contract with the Chiefs to ensure he remains in Kansas City as one of the town’s sports icons for the next decade.

Patrick has already become a major figure in Kansas City’s sports scene, not just as a player, but with an ownership stake in MLB’s Kansas City Royals after he purchased a minority share of the team last July. The purchase made him the youngest owner in MLB history.

Jackson, meanwhile, is a marketing student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and has built his brand as a social media influencer. He’s opened up about cyber bullying in his past content.

“All of the hate that I receive really affects me,” he wrote in the caption of a TikTok video in May 2020. “I honestly really struggle with it and am trying to stay strong, but it’s become too much.”
