Jurgen Klopp Wants Liverpool To Make January Move For $90M 'Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo': Reports

KEY POINTS

  • Luis Diaz is contracted with Porto until 2024
  • He finished as Copa America's top scorer, along with Messi
  • Diaz has netted 12 goals for Porto this term

Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants Liverpool FC to make a move for Porto's Luis Diaz during the upcoming January transfer window.

Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in January as the duo will head home on international duty for the Africa Cup of Nations. Liverpool boss Klopp wants to add a forward to his squad in order to help reduce the attacking burden on the side during Mane and Salah's absence. The Reds are currently placed third in the table, two points behind 2021-22 Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Diaz, who is fondly called the 'Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo', has impressed Liverpool boss Klopp, who is said to be an admirer of the South American forward, reported Spanish publication Marca

After starting his professional career in Colombia, 24-year-old Diaz moved to Porto in the summer of 2019. It could be a great signing for Liverpool as the Colombian forward is yet to reach his peak. Diaz, who is contracted with Porto until 2024, has a release clause of $90 million, according to Portuguese media outlet Record

Liverpool had a close look at Porto's No. 7 when they hosted the Portuguese club in the Champions League last month. Diaz, who featured in Porto's starting XI, is believed to have passed what would have been an audition at Anfield even though his side suffered a 2-0 loss.

Diaz is having a stellar season with Porto, having scored 12 goals and two assists in 19 appearances for the Portuguese club, across all competitions. Porto are currently at the top of the league table with 32 points and are yet to lose a game. The Colombia national has a significant role to play in Porto's success so far this term as he has netted 10 goals and two assists in 12 league games for Porto in the 2021-22 campaign.

Diaz became the talk of Copa America earlier this year when he finished as the tournament's highest goal scorer, along with Lionel Messi – both scored four goals each. Even during the semi-final match between Argentina and Colombia, Diaz netted for his country before Colombia lost on penalties to the eventual champions.
