Jets get chance to right ship in London after brutal week

LONDON — It felt like the Jets were 0-4 instead of 2-2 at times this week.

The team suffered a brutal home loss to the Broncos in the rain last Sunday, and the stormy weather only seemed to get worse from there.

There were calls for Robert Saleh’s job.

There was Saleh sort of, kind of blaming Aaron Rodgers’ cadence for five false start penalties.

There was Garrett Wilson sort of, kind of complaining about the offense.

It’s been a week.

Now, the Jets come to England to face a 4-0 Vikings team in the first of three straight stand-alone games.

It feels like we are about to find out who these Jets really are — the team that looked incredibly efficient in a win over the Patriots, or the team that tripped over themselves against the Broncos.

“We have got the whole season ahead of us,” Saleh said. “We are 2-2. We are in the thick of it, obviously. We are at the nothing part of football. This is the part of the season where teams start figuring out exactly who they are, and you are either climbing up the hill or you are staying at the bottom.

“So, this next quarter if you will, the next four games are big part of the season, but the guys are in great spirits and ready to get after it.”

We’ll find out if the Jets were able to fix the myriad mistakes that they made against the Broncos.

They committed 15 penalties, 13 of which were accepted.

They had five false starts.

They allowed Rodgers to get sacked five times and hit 14 times.

They could not get a running game going.

They failed to score on three tries from the 1-yard line.

It was an ugly, ugly game.

“We came off a good Thursday night game [against the Patriots] where we were efficient in all areas,” Rodgers said. “Then, we just didn’t play well at home. We’re still trying to find ways to get the ball in space to our guys and get our best 11 on the field. It starts with me.

“I’ve got to be efficient and deal the ball when necessary, hold onto it when necessary and make sure we’re good on first and second down this week.”
