Drake Hogestyn concluded his time as John Black on the long-running soap opera “Days of Our Lives” in a touching way.
A rep for the show confirmed to People on Tuesday that Hogestyn, who tragically died from pancreatic cancer at age 70 on Saturday, starred in his final episode of “Days of Our Lives” on Sept. 9.
In the episode, Hogestyn’s John shares some touching moments with his grandson, Tate (Leo Howard), who is grappling with his love interest, Holly (Ashley Puzemis), finding out who was responsible for her father’s death.

John comforted Tate with wise words, suggesting he give Holly some “space.” When that didn’t work, he proposed Tate send Holly a message, letting her know he was thinking of her.
John assured Tate after he texted Holly, “She will [read it]. And I am sure that she’s gonna take you up on it when she is ready.”
