Hugh Grant misses old days of co-star hookups: ‘Everyone goes home and looks at Twitter’

Hugh Grant has spoken out about missing the good old days when co-stars on film sets could get drunk and hook up with each other.

“Films are so weird now,” Grant, 62, said during an appearance on Monday night’s “Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”

“They are weird because, in the old days, by the end of the second week, you were all getting drunk in the evening and having dinner and falling in love with each other and all of that. All of that stopped because of telephones. Everyone goes home and looks at Twitter. It’s so sad.”

Grant was on the late night talk show circuit to promote his new epic fantasy movie “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” premiering Friday and co-starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Regé-Jean Page.

Grant, who stars in the film, which is based on the popular game, previously admitted to having “tantrums” on set during filming.

Grant recently courted controversy during the Oscars after his red-carpet interview with model Ashley Graham went viral. The public was divided, with some people slamming his brusque responses as rude,  while others defended the British actor and said that Graham was the clueless one.

Grant, of course, is famously known for his own antics during his long career — including his 1995 arrest in California with a prostitute in his car, while he was still in a relationship with his then-girlfriend, Elizabeth Hurley.

On his Monday night show, Colbert asked Grant if there would be more affairs going on if people on sets weren’t glued to their smartphones.

“Yeah, I think so,” Grant replied. “You know, Tarantino banned telephones from his set, and quite right too. And the people there, they do all shag each other, so I’m told.”
