A screengrab of the dev error 5820 on Call of Duty Warzone. This is the error message we will be fighting in this post.

While Activision’s Call of Duty franchise has always been massively popular, COD: Warzone really sent it to new heights. However, just as any other online game, it suffers from a variety of bugs and errors. In this article, we will go over how you can fix the “dev error 5820”.

Game Settings Tweak:

The first and easiest fix for this bug is as follows. Open up your Battle.net desktop app, and go to COD: Warzone. Now, under the “Options” tab, select “Game Settings”. Check the box next to “Additional Command Line Arguments” and type in the space below: “-D3D11”. Remember to type in the phrase exactly as shown here!

Restart your game and see if that fixed it! If it didn’t, keep reading!

In-Game Graphics Adjustments:

An alternative is to first start the game up, and instead of starting a match, go to the “Options” tab. Now, navigate to the “Graphics” tab and select “Fullscreen Borderless” under “Display Monitor”. While you may be sacrificing a bit of your FPS by doing this, it may just solve the error!

Next, look for “Sync every frame (V-Sync)” and ensure it is “Enabled”. Next, scroll down till you find “Cache Spot Shadows” and “Cache Sun Shadows” and disable both of them.

Restart your game and see if that fixed it! If it didn’t, keep reading!

Change your skin:

There is a chance that the error is popping up due to glitches in the skin you are using. To be safe, use a basic/default skin and try starting a match. Obviously, this would be discarding all your hard-earned skins, but it may be worth it if it solves the error!

Edit your loadout:

Sometimes, weapons added in with updates can carry bugs into the game. To combat this, try using a loadout that only has base-game Modern Warfare guns, without any weapons from the newer patches. Try starting a game and let’s hope that this solved it!

Change the location of the game:

The most drastic measure you can take if nothing above has worked is to reinstall the game. Except when you are reinstalling, change the “Install Location”. This is so that in case your hard drive is corrupted, the game can run elsewhere. If you were using a separate SSD/HDD driver, swap them out and there is a good chance it fixes the issue.

Let’s hope the many fixes above helped you. If it didn’t, your last resort is to reach out to Activision Support.
