Houston’s mayor pleads with Deshaun Watson to stay with Texans

If only the Texans’ front office showed as much interest in their star quarterback as the mayor of Houston does.

Sylvester Turner sent out two tweets on Sunday afternoon urging Deshaun Watson to stay in Houston, amid a contentious offseason in which the Pro Bowl QB reportedly wants out.

“Houston loves @deshaunwatson and the @HoustonTexans,” Turner tweeted. “Houston is a great City that is hungry to back our players and team. As Mayor of a City that is second to none I pray we move forward together.”

“I value @deshaunwatson as a player but I respect him even more as a person,” Turner said in a second tweet. “I know he loves this City because I have seen how much he has given of himself and his treasure to people in this City. I am humbled to be his Mayor. I hope that won’t change anytime soon.”

Watson has been at the center of a whirlwind of drama in Houston this offseason. The QB has become disgruntled after the organization reportedly promised to let him have a say in their offseason hiring process, then went back on their promise. They also paid consulting firm Korn Ferry to assist in their GM search, then ignored their advice and hired Nick Caserio from the Patriots.

Watson has named the Jets as his preferred destination, with the Dolphins as another possibility. Both teams have top-three draft picks to offer Houston in a trade, as well as several other assets.
